Rav Shmuel Kamenetsky (November, 1924 - present) is one of American's oldest and best-know Litvishe gedolim. Rav Kamenetsky was a primary student of Rav Aharon Kotler, from whom he received semicha. Prior to studying in Kotler's Lakewood Yeshiva, Rav Kamenetsky learned in Ner Israel Rabbinical College under the tutelage of his father's cousin, Rav Yaakov Yitzchok Ruderman.
In the mid-1950s, as part of the Lakewood Yeshiva's effort to establish out-of-town yeshivas, Rav Kamenetsky was sent to found the Talmudical Yeshiva of Philadelphia. He and Rav Elya Svei served as co-Roshei Yeshiva until the latter's passing in March, 2009.
