Rav Shlomo Zalman Auerbach (July 20, 1910 - February 20, 1995), was a renowned posek and Rosh Yeshiva of the Kol Torah in Jerusalem. He was a warm and loving person; moreover, he was very calm and patient. He once told someone, however, that as a boy, he was quick to anger and became irritated easily; thus, he worked on himself to become a calm and patient person.
He was known for his incredible diligence in learning, as characterized by the following story: When in yeshiva, the first time an automobile drove down the street, all of the other boys in the yeshiva ran out to view the spectacle. The young Rav Auerbach, however, stayed in his seat, refusing to squander even a few moments of his learning.
