Rav Yisrael Baal Shem Tov (1968 - 1760), whose name literally means, "master of the good name," was also known by the acronym "Besht". He was the founder of the Chasidic movement. The Baal Shem Tov was a leader who revolutionized Jewish thought and breathed new life into a fainting nation. The effects of his teachings continue to be felt today - both by his direct followers, as well as by followers of all other streams of Jewish thought, who've been deeply impacted by his teachings and philosophy.
His world was thoroughly imbued with nothing but the reality of the Creator, as seen from the following teaching: "Everything is by Divine Providence. If a leaf is turned over by a breeze, it is only because this has been specifically ordained by G‑d to serve a particular function within the purpose of creation."
